10 Step Easy On-Page SEO Checklist (Hit #1 Fast)

Last updated on June 25th, 2024 at 10:33 am

Even with the growing competition, staying ahead of the curve when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO) is challenging. Your competitors are constantly tweaking their content and websites in an attempt to catch up with you. Fast

With so many changes, staying on top of your game is key. Keep in mind that the only way to optimize your website for search engines is by staying consistent.

There’s no shortcut to success.

That’s why you’re reading this article.

We’ve compiled a list of the most important things you can do to improve your on-page SEO.

Truth is, you don’t need expensive software, long tutorials, site audits, or any other special skills to start seeing improvements. You just need a few minutes every day to keep working on it.

If you’re ready to take your SEO game to the next level, follow the on-page SEO checklist below.

1). Create Amazing Content

This is the most important SEO tip you can ever learn.

You can optimize your website to the last letter, but it is useless without amazing content.

How are search engines supposed to index your SEO-friendly pages if they don’t even have a chance to see them?

Your job as an SEO is to create quality content that will catch the attention of search engine bots and human readers alike.

The best SEO advice we can offer is to read as much SEO advice online as possible and then put your own spin on it. Keep in mind that SEO is a philosophy, not a list of specific rules.

2). Include Your Keyword In Your URL

Your URL, or unique URL, is the address of your website that people see in their browser’s address bar. If you have a business website, your URL usually looks like this:  example.com/article123.

But what if you want to optimize on-page SEO?

Add the target keyword to the URL.

For example, if the article is targeting ‘best travel agency,’ the blog post URL should look something like example.com/best-travel-agency.

3). Use Short URLs

Short URLs are super-convenient for humans as well as the bots. A recent study of 11.8 million Google search results found that short URLs rank best in Google.

4). Front-Load Your Keyword In Your Title Tag

The title tag is the first thing a human sees in your browser. It’s your chance to gain attention, so make sure it’s as relevant and compelling as possible.

There’s a ton of SEO advice online about title tags, but most of them don’t tell you where to put the keyword.

The most obvious thing you can do is use your keyword in the title. But where exactly?

Put your keyword in the front of the title tag, as I have done in this article about the On-page SEO checklist.

5). Optimize Images

Before 2016, search engines had a hard time trying to interpret images. But by adding alt text, you help the bots understand what the image is about, which helps your content rank better.

Also, use the descriptive file names.

Now, the best way to make sure your images are optimized is to have a team member in your business review everyone. If you don’t have time for every image in your content to be reviewed, hire a team member or an outsourced team of content creators to polish up your images.

6). Use Synonyms and LSI Keywords

The keywords you choose to describe your content are just as important as the topic itself. It’s a lot easier to rank for a similar keyword than a completely different one.

Using target keywords’ synonyms and LSI keywords optimizes your content by making them easier for the bots to understand what it’s all about.

Also, using them presents a unique chance to potentially rank for more keywords.

7). Use Your Keyword Once In The First 150 Words

Make sure you include the keyword you want to rank for at least once in this first section of your blog post and make sure it makes sense in the context of the sentence.

If you are writing a blog on the topic of “SEO for bloggers”, make sure to write at least one sentence that says something like “SEO is especially important for bloggers because…”.

This will help Google’s algorithm understand your blog post better, and will put your blog in a better position to rank higher in Google’s search results for your chosen keyword.

8). Use Your Keyword in H1, H2 or H3 Tags

Also, use your SEO target keyword in the heading tags of your blog post. H1 and H2 tags are the most important on your blog and have the most value.

They are the ones that readers see first, and these are the ones you should use to insert your keyword. H3 tags are a little less important, but they are helpful to your readers as well.

You can use these for keyword insertion as well, but make sure you are not overdoing them. Stay away from keyword stuffing, as it does not help your readers and only hurts your blog.

H3 tags are helpful for SEO as well, as they can be used to insert your keyword into your blog post.

9). Add Internal Links

Another on-page SEO tactic is to link to related pages within your website. This will help readers navigate your site and explore different topics. It’s also a great way to increase time spend on your site.

Linking related posts also helps transfer page rank.

10). Add External Links

If you’re publishing content about a specific topic, make sure you include links to other useful resources for readers who want to dive deeper. This improves the usability of your blog posts and helps readers find trustworthy sources of information on a given topic.

One way to make sure your blog posts have relevant and helpful links is to outline a list of topics or questions you want to address in your post. Then, when you’re researching, look for links that you can use in your post.

Once you have a list of topics, start brainstorming. Then, find at least one link for each topic. You can link to blog posts, videos, books, or any other type of resource.
